22 December 2015 - December Update

Well here we are and Christmas is just a few days away.

I start with some sad news that our past band President Jeanette Street (known to us all as Jean) passed away peacefully on Wednesday 16th December.  Jean was President of the band for 10 years and was a great supporter.  She loved the band and the people in it and we send our condolences to her family at this sad time.

We had a very successful Christmas Concert again this year with our guests the Blaenavon Male Voice Choir.  The hall was sold out a couple of weeks before the concert and it was lovely to see everyone in the Christmas spirit.

We are busy with our Christmas fundraising now and if you are in Lydbrook on Christmas morning look out for the band.  We’ll start at the top of the village at 9.45 am and be down opposite the Forge Hammer by about midday.  Thanks to the training band members who have also been busy in the local community during the run up to Christmas.  I think they are the best bunch of youngsters we have had for some time - watch this space.

Thanks to the conductors who have led the band during the year: Tom Davoren, Mareika Schryver, Glyn Williams and last but not least, our principal conductor Ian Holmes.  It’s been a great pleasure to be associated with so many fine conductors and we look forward to working with them all again in the not too distant future.

2016 promises to be another busy year for the band and we look forward to the challenges and the fun we’ll have as we rehearse and carry out our engagements.

We have a great organisation here in Lydbrook and we are of course very proud of our band and its achievements and so my final thanks go to all the players, committee members, fund raisers and helpers who do so much for “Team Lydbrook”.

I hope you all enjoy the festive season and on behalf of the band a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
