27 March 2016 - March Update

In my last news update I mentioned that it was Area Contest time and now it’s all done and dusted.

We had a great result, coming 5th in the Championship Section out of a field of 13 bands and at the same time securing our Championship status into next year.  This will be our 11th consecutive year in the top division of banding and we were only two places short of qualification for the Albert Hall finals.

Thanks go to our guest conductor for the contest, Glyn Williams - Principal Euphonium of the Cory Band and to our guest principal euphonium player for the contest, Robbert Vos. We wish him and his future wife Evi every happiness for their wedding on 9th April.

All our attention is now focused on April 16th when the band will perform at Bristol Cathedral with the UWE Choir (160 voices) and the South West Open Youth Orchestra in a musical extravaganza ‘Sun, Moon and Stars’. The musical director, creator and organiser of the event is our band’s principal conductor, Ian Holmes.  The concert will include the third performance of Liz Lane’s ‘Silver Rose’ with narration by Barry Farrimond.  Part of the concert and the rehearsals for it will be filmed for the BBC’s One Show.  I’ll let you know when this is being transmitted.

Tickets are going quickly so ‘click here for details'.

Tickets for the Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration Concert on 11th June at the Forest Theatre are going well.  They are £9 each and can be obtained from Barbara Morgan: 01594 860944.  The concert will feature music through the decades of our remarkable Queen.
