As we draw towards Christmas and the end of the year I thought I would just reflect on an absolutely fantastic year for Lydbrook Band.

 

We’ve had some brilliant concerts to include Bristol Cathedral, Arnolfini and St. George’s Hall, Bristol performing newly commissioned music from our composer in residence Liz Lane and all conducted by our principal conductor Ian Holmes.

 

We have taken part in the Wye River Festival, played at Cheltenham Racecourse and promoted a special concert for the Queen’s 90th birthday, plus numerous other concerts and small group jobs.  And to top all that, we have appeared on Points West and The One Show.

 

We have attended two contests, both in Torquay, under the baton of Glyn Williams and maintained our Championship Section status for the eleventh consecutive year.

 

Again we went off on our travels and this time to the Murcia region of Spain staying in the delightful town of Los Alcazares and gave four great concerts.  It was a pleasure to join together with ex-pats band Just Brass for a concert in Rojales and with the Spangles Ladies Barbershop Chorus for a concert in Los Alcazares.

 

The Training Band has been brilliant again this year and we have the largest band we’ve had for some years.  They’ve given numerous concerts in the locality and gained gold awards at the two competitions entered. They also became Champion Training Band of Gloucestershire at the GBBA Contest in November.

 

None of the above would have been possible without the hard work of our dedicated and committed players with a special thank you also to our general committee members and fundraising team who have worked hard throughout the year to make sure everything runs to plan.

 

It’s been a great year and it just leaves me to wish you a very Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year from everyone connected with Team Lydbrook.
