13 February 2021 - Concorde Concert Anniversary

It’s 12 months on Saturday 15th February that Lydbrook band took part in a wonderful concert at the Aerospace Museum in Filton, playing under the wings of Concorde. As well as our senior band we had our own Training Band, Lydney Training Band and City of Bristol Learners Band.  It was a huge, massed band of over 100 players, directed by Lydbrook Band’s principal conductor Ian Holmes. A full house enjoyed a varied programme of music all with a flight theme.

The major work was Innovation 216 - 216 was the code name of the last Concorde to be built.  Written by the band’s Composer-in-Residence Liz Lane the music followed the building of aeroplanes in Filton from the Box Plane to Concorde. For this the bands and Ian were joined by massed choirs conducted by David Ogden and Sam Burns.  Innovation 216 was commissioned by Bristol Cultural Development Partnership with funds provided by Arts Council England.

Little did we know that February 15th, 2020 would be the last concert that any of us would do for over a year owing to the Coronavirus, but what better way to finish our concerts than under the wings of Concorde for a supersonic concert.
