Tracey Gwynne - 50 Years Service to Banding
Gloucestershire Brass Band Association are proud to celebrate those people who have contributed over 50 years or more to the brass band movement, Tracey has now joined the over 50 club!
From picking up a cornet at home from the shelf in the understairs cupboard at the age of 6 Tracey started her musical journey with Pillowell Silver Band. Over the years she played with Yorkley Concert & Onward Bands, Lydney, Drybrook, Cinderford and Lydbrook Band where she has played for the last 20 years having played there previously.
She’s played in Spain, Poland & Belgium and appeared on The One Show and Countryfile making many lifelong friends along the way. Tracey learnt to play the piano from the age of 11 and enjoys accompanying brass musicians in exams and local competitions.
Tracey has also enjoyed her musical journey with local choirs. She began as assistant accompanist progressing to Musical Director with the Forest of Dean Male Voice Choir over a period of 32 years. She then became the Musical Director for the Springfield Singers in 2024.
Tracey has taught brass and piano in many Forest schools and privately at home to adults as well as children, for over 40 years, encouraging the musicians of our future.
She is so proud that her daughters have followed in her footsteps both playing the cornet and were there with her for her award as was her husband, Simon, who supports her endlessly with her musical career.
